Bees and Trees

I first started keeping bees almost 40 years ago, before we even started selling Christmas Trees.   We have 20 hives which are all located in our Christmas Tree plantations.  The bees need to make over 100,000 journeys in order to produce 1lb of honey!  There are normally two main periods of honey flow each year early May and late June, early July.  The size of the annual honey flow is extremely weather dependent. Once the honey flow is finished we remove the honey from the hives and extract it from the frames and then filter it before bottling.  We leave each colony with at least 14kg (c30lbs) of honey to see them through our long winters.  Our honey is often available to purchase from our sales centre.
